With a first look at the more than 7000 archive inventories that describe the 145 linear kilometres of archives in the depots, this is not always clear. Over the years, the National Archives have worked on so-called further entrances or indexes. Archives have been further explored and systematically accessed, for example, on personal names, events or place names. The indexes provide additional assistance in carrying out archival research. A total of 98 of these indexes were released as open data. These have a total of around 1.37 million records. From pedigree cards to pensions and from company register to prisoners in The Hague prison around 1900.
Because a large part of these indexes have been created by the National Archives themselves, the data can be released under CC0. For two indexes it has been agreed with the creator to release them under CC-BY-SA.
The material can be accessed via the index overview page at https://www.nationaalarchief.nl/onderzoeken/open-data/open-data-indexen. It is clearly indicated per index whether or not it is available as open data. If that is the case, the index can be downloaded as a data dump.
