The historical series ‘New build houses’; input price index construction costs 2000=100, from 1990' shows the development of the costs (wage and material) involved in the construction of new homes in the Netherlands.
This series was created by linking independently calculated sequences from the past.
An input price index is determined on the basis of the price developments of the different cost components from which the product to be realised — in this case a new home — is built. In the composition of this index, changes in the prices of equipment (tools and machines), general costs and ‘profit & risk’ are excluded. Costs for energy and transport are also not included in the calculation because their impact on the final cost is relatively small. The price evolution of land costs is also not included in this input price index.
From 1990 to December 1994 only figures of the material component are available. Since 1995, this series has been expanded with figures of the wage component. From that period onwards, due to a weighted addition of these two series, a series is also available for the total construction costs.
Data available from:
— Material component: January 1990
— Wage component: January 1995
— Total: January 1995
