Penitentiary establishments; in and outflow of detainees

CBS collects in the context of the statistics on safety data on penitentiary establishments. This table contains data on the inflow and outflow of detainees during the year and state of the detained population on 1 January and on 31 December, by type of establishment, residence permit and gender. In addition, this table contains figures on the average number of detainees per day and the total number of detainees during the year in penitentiary facilities have been provided. The number of detainees is also related to the number of inhabitants in The Netherlands. This figure is used in international comparisons. Data available from 1994 to 2000. This table has not been supplemented (temporarily) since 2000 due to problems in the observation of the data. In the context of the cuts resulting from the Rutte II cabinet, CBS had to make substantive choices in the statistical programme.
