The table provides insight into the number of persons with social security benefits. These persons may be resident in the Netherlands and abroad. These include benefits for incapacity for work, unemployment and assistance, assistance-related benefits and benefits for the general old-age pension.
The number of persons receiving a benefit for the general old-age pension has been included in the table from 2014.
It is possible that a person is entitled to multiple benefits. These can be benefits of the same kind (e.g. two benefits under the Wet op de incapacity insurance (WAO)) or benefits of different types (such as a benefit under the Unemployment Act (WW) and a social assistance allowance). In the latter case, the person is included in both types of benefits. In the first case, only once (at the WAO).
In the total counts, of course, the person is counted only once.
