This dataset contains figures about the Oldest Old Support Ratio. This indicator shows how many people are potentially able to provide informal care to one elderly person. The Oldest Old Support Ratio is calculated by dividing the number of people aged 50 to 74 by the number of people aged 85 and over. In the Netherlands, most caregivers are between 50 and 75 years old, and elderly people who need informal care are often 85-plus. For the period 1975-2015, this indicator was calculated on the basis of CBS data; for the period up to 2040, this was calculated on the basis of figures derived from the 2016 PBL/CBS regional population and households forecast.
