These price indices of new-build homes reflect the evolution of the construction costs of homes. They are based on the construction costs of housing in the cheap (rental) sector. Changes in construction costs resulting from a change in the quality of the homes are eliminated as much as possible in the calculations. As the share of cheap (rental) homes is falling sharply compared to the total number of newly built homes, the amount of information that became available for the calculation of these figures also decreased. This has led CBS to stop the series in its current form, making 1999 the last reporting year of this series. Instead, a new series will be launched under the name Price indices construction costs of new homes. For a description of this series, refer to the article A new price index for the construction costs of new homes. See paragraph 3.
