The primary groundwater measurement network is a measuring network of sites where groundwater levels and elevations (groundwater pressure) are measured in gauge pipes. A probe has one or more filters. From these measurements it can be inferred how the groundwater flows. The primary groundwater monitoring network aims to: 1. gaining insight into the status of groundwater; 2. monitoring developments; 3. serving as a reference for secondary measuring networks. To gain insight into the status of the groundwater, the collected groundwater level and elevation data are used to calibrate so-called groundwater models. The province manages this measurement network and finances it from the so-called groundwater levy.
