The European Union’s Habitats and Birds Directives aim to maintain and improve the quality of nature. They impose obligations on the Member States of the European Union aimed at maintaining or restoring the favourable conservation status of species and natural habitats. The assessment of the conservation status can therefore be regarded as a measure of the quality of nature.
Once every seven years, all countries of the European Union report on the conservation status of species and habitats. The table shows the Dutch situation for the period 2000-2006.
By habitat or species, the distribution shall be made according to the assessment of the conservation status: favorable, moderately unfavorable or very unfavourable.
