Dataset description

This table contains figures on the number of recorded crimes and clarifications per month and per year. These are broken down by the type of crime and per police unit. The attempts were also included in the recorded crimes. For some crimes (e.g. murder/murder) this results in a much higher number than just the number of completed crimes. Since July 2018, it is no longer possible to record in a single registration multiple offences related to each other (cooperation). An example of this is a street robbery in which a firearm (arm possession) is used. If multiple offences occur in one registration, only the most serious offence was counted before July 2018. As a result of this adjustment, there is an increase in a number of offences compared to 2018. It mainly concerns housewreck, special laws including money laundering, arms trafficking including arms ownership, drug trafficking, damage to public order and other social integrity, including insults. The increase was therefore particularly visible in the last 6 months of 2018. On the total number of crimes, this adjustment has only a limited effect. For the whole of 2018, this leads to an increase of around 1.0 %. Since April 30, 2020, it is possible to report WhatsApp fraud via the Internet (also called friend-in-emergence fraud). This was immediately made frequent use. In the months of May to December 2020, approximately 20,000 reports of WhatsApp fraud were made. WhatsApp fraud is registered under Horizontal fraud. The increase in the clarification rate in the first 6 months of 2022 is partly due to the decrease in online crime (offences with relatively low clearance rates). In addition, there is a system change, which overwrites a number of registrations to resolve the old date by a date in the first half of 2022. As a result, the clarification rate in the last months of the reporting period is temporarily higher. Declarations concern registered crimes for which a PV of declarations has been drawn up. Several reports may have been made per crime. Internet declarations can only be made for a selected number of offences and only if there is no detection indication. A registered crime is considered to be clarified as soon as a suspect is linked to it and has been heard. A suspect doesn't have to confess. The fact that a verbalist continues to identify him/her as a suspect after the hearing means that he/she was rightly identified as a suspect in the verdict’s opinion. The clarification rate is calculated by dividing the number of clarifications from a period by the number of recorded crimes from the same period. The clarifications may therefore relate to crimes from another period. This has been chosen because it takes a long time for the figures to be final by na-arrow (a registration can be clarified much later than a crime has been registered). As a result, the clarification rates over recent periods would give too low a value. For crimes with little detection indication (internet declarations and/or offences where no physical contact has taken place), the clarification rate is lower than where physical contact took place (e.g. robbery and street robbery). Data available from: 2012 Status of the figures: The figures in this table are regularly updated. As a result, small differences can arise from previous publications. Updating the figures is necessary in order, for example, to retroactively incorporate the reclassification of municipalities or retroactive adjustment in the coding. Figures on declarations and online declarations are updated after each quarter. Amendments as of 17 October 2022: Figures for the third quarter have been added. When are new figures coming? January 16, 2023, figures for the fourth quarter are added.
