Research and development; expenditure and staff, region; 2011-2016

This table contains regional data on R & D staff and R & D expenditures for own research and development activities, tootised for the business, institutions and higher education sectors. The R & D is carried out with its own staff in the Netherlands. Outsourced R & D is not included in this table. Due to rounding and/or lack of regional distributions, the totals may be uneven in the sum of the variables. As of reporting year 2011, Dutch R & D figures have changed significantly compared to previous years. Important reasons for changing the Dutch R & D figures are: — A new version of the Eurostat Regulation from the reporting year 2011. — Changes in the CBS business register. The following changes have been made: — Expanding the R & D definition. — Changes in the processing of the R & D research. — Adding the R & D expenses of companies with fewer than 10 employees. — Reducing the total benefits of higher educational institutions as a basis for R & D expenditures. Data available from 2011 to 2016. Status of the figures: The figures for 2013, 2014 and 2015 are final. The figures for 2016 are further provisional.
