This table provides data on the income and wealth of self-employed persons by industry. These are those for whom self-employment is the main source of income. A distinction is made by type of self-employed activity and by economic activity. The data are broken down by various levels of detail of the standard business classification (SBI).
Target population and power reference date is 1 January of the reporting year.
All figures in this table are at person level, including capabilities; (business) assets are determined per household, and are allocated to all persons in the household as a measure of prosperity. Target population and power reference date is 1 January of the reporting year.
The General Business Register (ABR) is used to determine the SBI of self-employed persons. Other self-employed persons are classified up to 2-digit SBI level. Based on available data, a more detailed classification is not possible. As a result, accumulated numbers of self-employed persons at 3-digit level or lower than the overall 2-digit total may be lower.
Data available from: 2011.
Status of the figures:
The figures for 2006 to 2019 are final. The 2020 figures are provisional.
Changes as of 10 March 2022:
The figures on self-employed capital in 2010 were not correct and have been removed from the table. For this year, the 2011 assets can be assumed as the reference date has been postponed from 31 December to 1 January since 2011.
Changes as of 26 July 2021:
Revised figures for 2006 to 2019 have been added. The availability of new sources of debt and accumulated credit in savings and investment loans, as well as a renewed methodology in the calculation of the significant importance and various other asset items, changed the capital figures. The characterisation of self-employed persons has also been adapted so that all self-employed persons with staff employed are considered as a zmp’er (formerly only the main source of income was taken into account).
When will there be new figures?
New figures for 2021 will be available in December 2022.
