This table provides information on the sexual behaviour of young people aged 12 to 25 in 2017. Breakdowns are made by gender, age, migration background and urbanity.
This table contains figures on the contraceptive use of girls to prevent unplanned pregnancy. The following question has been asked to girls: Are you currently using a contraceptive? And if yes: What are you using? The figures on contraceptive use in this table are not comparable to those on contraceptive use in the table Sexual Behavior of Young People, 2012. In 2012, both boys and girls were asked about contraception in sexual intercourse with the last partner. In 2017, it is reported on the current contraceptive use of girls to prevent unplanned pregnancy. Because the current contraceptive use is over a recent period, it is easier to indicate which method is used than in sexual intercourse with the last partner. In the case of sexual intercourse with the last partner, it is a longer period during which several methods may have been used in succession.
In order to show how young people in the Netherlands are doing, the National Youth Monitor describes more than 70 topics in addition to this topic. The topics are called indicators.
