What do you see?
This map shows the modelled carbon balance of mineral agricultural land in the Netherlands, aggregated at postal code 4 level. The map shows that for mineral soils in most areas the carbon balance in mineral soils is (increasing) positive, especially in areas with a lot of grassland. Only around the peat colonies and in some areas with duing rounds, there is a clear negative balance. It should be noted that peat soils are not included in this map.
What’s the Value?
For mineral soils, the map provides insight into areas where the balance is positive or negative and therefore the stock of carbon in the soil increases or decreases. This will allow regional specific policies to counteract this decline. The map is an aggregation of modelled data at postal code 4 level, and therefore not suitable for applications at the farm level at parcel level.
Who is this important to?
This map is important for policy makers and researchers involved in climate mitigation (carbon sequestration) and the agricultural sector where soil carbon is an important indicator of soil quality.
