The soil map of the Netherlands, scale 1: 50 000, provides spatial information about the soil structure up to a global depth of 1 meter. Groundwater stairways (Gts) provide information about the groundwater flow through the route of the Average Highest Groundwater Level (GHG) and the Average Lowest Groundwater Level (GLG). Version 2006 distinguishes itself from the previous version in that information has been added to the map surfaces with peat soils in the vicinity of the eastern sandy soils. The information on these peat surfaces has been made available in the so-called peat mapping carried out on approximately 100 000 ha. Each map surface checked whether there is still a peat soil.In this quick scan, the surfaces with outdated information were not re-triggered. The soil information on the soil map relates to the nature and composition of the topsoil (soil species) with a further subdivision by soil formation, peat species, different layers in the profile, presence of lime and disturbances due to excavation and equalisation.
