The Netherlands is divided into hexagones. Each hexagon offers space for one medium sized wind turbine (50 to 90 m diameter), 1.4 small wind turbines (smaller than 50 m diameter), or 0.7 large wind turbines (greater than 90 m diameter). Per hexagon it was then examined which barriers to wind turbines are present in the hexagon, and how strict the regime of these barriers is. The regimes are: “No obstacles”, “Yes, provided”, “No, unless”, and “No”. The card represents the strictest regime in the hexagon for each hexagon standard. Consult the attributes of a hexagon to explore all the obstacles present. Please note that a hindrance does not have to apply to the entire hexagon, only that it occurs in it. Therefore, wind turbines can still be realised in a hexagon with a strict regime. The map does not take into account pre-existing wind turbines. Also, the barriers do not take into account location-dependent design criteria, such as drop shadow and sound. Also, zoning plans have not been taken into account.
