This table provides figures on changes in the stock of dwellings in the Netherlands according to the definitions of the Basic Registers of Addresses and Buildings (BAG). The BAG provides basic information on all buildings and addresses per municipality in the Netherlands. The municipalities are responsible for the quality of the filling of the BAG. As of the 2012 reporting year, CBS uses the BAG as a source for the statistics ‘stock of dwellings and non-residents’.
Before that, the statistics on the housing stock were based on the Housing Register. This transition to another source caused a breach of method. Due to the need for continuous long time series, research has been carried out on the nature and extent of the method breach in the housing stock 2011-2012 and has been repaired. The starting point for this break repair is that the new definitions are guiding according to the BAG. Data on the housing stock for 2012 are consistent with the data after 2012 in this table.
