These maps represent the location of the top of the Pleistocene surface, which is largely covered by sea and river deposits and peat in the course of the Holocene.
One of the layers of map (plzgeul) involves a reconstruction of the Pleistocene surface at the beginning of the Holocene (ca. 9000 BC; meter compared to NAP). The other layer of map (plmgeul) shows the current location of the Pleistocene area (meter compared to NAP). On this, the large Holocene geulin cuts in the Dutch coastal plain (the red trench shapes) are clearly visible.
