From the Maas, the Rijntakken-East, the Rijn-Maasmonding, the Volkerak-Zoommeer and the IJsselmeer area, an ecotope map is delivered every 6 years. Ecotopenmaps are an important part of Rijkswaterstaat’s biological monitoring programme. An ecotope map is built by combining multiple layers of information, such as a vegetation structure map, a water depth map, a flooding card, etc. The vegetation structure map is the most important layer based on high resolution stereo photos. An ecotope is defined as a spatially bound ecological unit, the composition and development of which are determined by abiotic, biotic and anthropogenic aspects together. The 1st cycle of mapping was carried out in the period 1997 to 1998 (year of photoflights). The 2nd cycle of mapping was carried out in the period from 2004 to 2006 (year of photoflights). The 3 rd cycle of mapping was carried out in the period from 2008 to 2012 (year of photoflights). The 4th cycle of mapping was carried out in the period from 2012 to 2018 (year of photoflights). Rhine-Maas mouth 4eCC: delivery to be expected 2nd quarter 2020. The fifth cycle of mapping concerns the mapping of all the above mentioned water systems, of which the Rhine Branches-East and Meuse were collected in 2017 and the lakes are planned to be recovered in 2021 and the Rhine mesh estuary in 2024. This file shows only the 5thCC Rijntakken-Oost and Maas of 2017.
