Marine Biotopes in South Troms

The dataset shows the distribution of marine biotopes in the Astafjords in Sør-Troms. A biotope is an area with a specific composition of plant and animal species that live under uniform environmental conditions. What species this is, is determined by the environmental conditions of the area. Using multivariate statistical methods and on the basis of detailed depth data, grain size data and information about bottom fauna from video, 12 biotope classes have been modelled on the seabed in Astafjorden, Vågsfjorden and Tranøyfjorden with the side fjords. Biotopdata is one of many map products of the project “Marine Basic Chart in Sør-Troms” (2002-2012).
