Dataset description

The data set is based on the Regulations relating to the regulation of fishing with bottom tools in the Norwegian Economic Zone, the fishing zone around Jan Mayen and in the fish protection zone near Svalbard. The purpose of the regulation is to protect vulnerable bottom habitats. Based on the “pre-warming approach”, the rules define all the seabed deeper than 1000 meters as vulnerable. On this bottom, fishing gear can cause great damage to habitats. Fishing with bottom gear is basically prohibited in areas deeper than 1000 meters.
