The establishment of the registry was mandated by the Health Registry Act of 2005, with the Ministry of Defense and the Norwegian Armed Forces Joint Medical Services being charged with its implementation and maintenance. The purpose of the registry is to monitor the health of the Armed Forces personnel and to identify risk-factors associated with military service. Persons who have been employed in the Armed Forces and those who were examined by the Norwegian concription board prior to military service are included in the registry.
