The spatial dataset concerns the Monitoring Birds of Poland, which is carried out as part of the nature monitoring subsystem of the State Environmental Monitoring coordinated by the Chief Inspector of Environmental Protection. The purpose of the program is to monitor the population status of as many bird species as possible, with particular emphasis on the Natura 2000 network of special protection areas. As part of the extensive monitoring system, almost 20% of the country's area was covered, and about 170 breeding bird species, 24 species of wintering birds, 3 species of migratory birds, including 42 species from Annex I of the Birds Directive. Each of the programs uses a methodology adapted to the specifics of the monitored group of species or individual species of birds. Observations are carried out on monitoring sites with dimensions depending on the program: 10x10, 2x2 and 1x1 km squares and transects (polylines) or objects (polygons). Bird monitoring provides annual, representative for the area of Poland indices of population status of selected species of breeding birds. The indices relate to changes in three parameters: abundance, distribution and reproduction.
