On the basis of the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (1972) a UNESCO World Heritage List covering cultural, natural or mixed goods has been established. It is an open list, updated every year. There are places of great and long-term value for humanity, as expressed by the ruling of a unique universal value. The listed good may consist of one or more components located in one or more countries, expressing common values, defined by 10 criteria (six cultural and four-nature). An application for inclusion on the World Heritage List shall be made by the State in whose territory the place is located, the decision to register shall be taken by the World Heritage Committee after consulting the advisory organisations ICOMOS (International Council for the Conservation of Monuments) or the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature).
