Area, Statistical Territorial Unit

The codebook introduced a statistical territorial breakdown supplementing the administrative division of the Slovak Republic into regions, districts and municipalities by the highest level analogous to NUTS — Nomenclature of territorial units for statistics. Nuts is a nomenclature that contains a 5-level statistical territorial breakdown of EU Member States. CIS0054 comprises territorial units corresponding to NUTS2 level. Repeal of measure 75/1998 Coll. as at 31. 7. 2004 is without prejudice to the statistical territorial units in question, as they have been transposed into the Classification of Territorial Units of Statistics introduced from 1. 8. 2004 as regional level 2. The area code in CIS0054 corresponds to the 4th position of the code RŠÚJ2 (NUTS2). A two-character acronym of the area and code DŠÚJ2 (NUTS2) according to CIS0022 is indicated in the note to the CIS0054 code. Individual levels of Classification of Statistical Territorial Units for SR — RŠÚJ2, RŠÚJ3, LŠÚJ1 and LŠÚJ2 are stored in the dials 0022 to 0025.
