Classification is intended for statistical purposes such as statistics on construction activities, statistics on construction costs and statistics on national accounts (calculation of consumption of fixed capital). The classification unit is an independent building (building, road, pipeline, etc.). In some cases, the classification unit can be applied to the property as a whole. Constructions are classified according to their specific use. Buildings that are intended for different purposes (e.g. combined residential, hotel and official buildings) are classified under a single classification item, according to the main use. The main use is intended as follows: from the total usable area of the building, it is necessary to calculate the percentages of individual parts intended for different purposes and assign classification codes to them. Subsequently, the construction is classified by the above method as follows: — the construction is classified within the 1-digit code — the type (buildings or civil engineering works) which occupies the largest part of the total area, — then it is classified within the 2-digit code — the section (civil equipment and transport infrastructure) with the largest proportion of areas within the type, — further a 3-digit code is assigned within the section, — finally, the construction is included in the 4-digit class code with the largest proportion of the total area within the group.
