The very low work intensity rate reflects the share of people living in households with very low work intensity (less than 20 %) in the overall population. The work intensity of the household is the ratio between, on the one hand, the number of months worked by all members of the working-age household during the income reference period and, on the other hand, the total number of months which could theoretically be worked by those members of the household. The definition of working age refers to persons aged 18-59, excluding those who are students aged 18-24. The data are calculated on the basis of the household income and living conditions sample survey (EU SILC).
