The Children’s Voices survey examines the incidence of violence based on ethnicity (language, culture and/or race) among children and adolescents in primary and secondary schools. It covers several forms of peer-to-peer violence, both physical and psychological as well as institutional violence, as reflected in existing legislation, school regulations and elsewhere.
The research carried out in Slovenia was part of an international project that was carried out simultaneously in five countries: Slovenia, Great Britain (England), Italy, Austria and Cyprus.
The general objectives and purpose of the international research were to:
recognise the extent and characteristics of inter-ethnic violence;
identify shortcomings in official legislative, school and other formal frameworks governing children’s rights;
raising public awareness and sensitisation of inter-ethnic violence;
identification of mechanisms for addressing or preventing ethnically-based violence in primary and secondary schools.
