A water protection area is an area in which, in order to protect a body of water used for abstraction or intended for the public supply of drinking water against pollution or other types of pollution which may affect the health or quantity of water, a water protection regime applies. Due to the different level of protection, internal areas are formed in the water protection area, namely the narrowest water protection areas with the strictest water protection regime, narrower water protection areas with a stricter protection regime and wider water protection areas with a milder water protection regime. The measures, conditions and restrictions of the water protection regime relate to the prohibition or establishment of special conditions in the case of spatial interventions, the prohibition or restriction of the operation of activities, or the prohibition or restriction on the use of water in the water protection area.
For the protection of a water body used for abstraction or intended for the public supply of drinking water, against pollution or other types of pollution that could affect the health status of water or its quantity, but the water protection area is not determined, municipal regulations (usually decrees) determining (water) protection zones issued on the basis of the Water Act (Official Gazette of the RS, Nos 38/81, 29/86 and 42/89 and Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, Nos 15/91-I, 32/93 — ZGJS, 29/95 — ZPDF, 52/00 and 67/02 — ZPDF) shall apply until the entry into force of the regulations of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia.
Water protection areas are presented in the data layer:
— water protection areas determined on the basis of the regulation of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia; and
— water protection areas established on the basis of municipal decrees.
