Land on which inland water is permanently or occasionally present and therefore creates specific hydrological, geomorphological and biological conditions that determine the aquatic and bypass ecosystems is the water land of inland waters.
Water land of liquid water comprises the basic channel of liquid water, including the bank, until a marked geomorphological change. The water plot of standing waters shall comprise the bottom of standing waters, including the bank, up to the highest recorded water level. Abandoned riverbeds and gravel, which are occasionally flooded by water, swamps and land flooded by water due to the encroachment of space, are also considered as water land.
The water surface of the sea comprises the bottom of the internal sea waters and the territorial sea to the external border of the coast.
The boundaries of water land are shown in digital form as a database in the water cadastre.
Water land is defined by the Water Act (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 67/02 and amendments; Articles 11 and 28) and Rules on the Detailed Method of Determining the Boundary Land of Inland Waters (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, Nos 58/18) and Rules on the Detailed Method of Determining the Boundary Border (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, Nos 106/04 and 77/10).
