Cartographic work carried out by the General Statistical Board in 1860, by the Law of June 4, 1859, as an advisory body, under the Ministry of War and then passed to the Presidency of the Government. In 1861 it became an active department, on which the Sections of Geography and Statistics depended, with five addresses, one of them being that of Topographic-Catastral Operations by Coello. This project had a dual purpose. On one topographical side, which included the survey of Spain’s Topographic Map and, on the other hand, cadastral, which proposed the demarcation and measurement of the country’s rural and urban plots with a fiscal objective.
There is documentation of sixty municipalities in the province of Madrid, carried out between 1860 and 1866. Between 1866 and 1870 the uprising of other cities such as Cartagena, Murcia, Granada, Soria and Los Reales Sitios began. This project was never completed. The documents that make up it are: Kilometric sheets, documents considered to be definitive from the rustic cadastre of each municipality, maps at scale 1:2000, Urban plot sheets, documents considered to be definitive in relation to the survey of the urban cadastre, scale 1:500. Drawings of directors at scale 1:20,000.
