Classification of the Degree of Urbanisation

The Classification of the Degree of Urbanisation is a classification that seeks to characterise the intensity of the settlement in cells of the statistical mesh of 1 km² where the population resides. Based on population density, different categories of areas are defined based on criteria of geographical contiguity, density and population thresholds according to the methodology described by EUROSTAT for the allocation of territorial typologies in statistical mesh: urban centres, urban clusters and rural mesh cells.
