Collections preserved in the germplasm bank of Castilla y León

Currently, only 150 species of the 300,000 species of known fanerogamous plants are cultivated, and most of the population lives from no more than 12 plant species. If we add that for the main crops a limited number of improved varieties have been developed that have displaced due to their technological advantages to the traditional ones, we find a very notable reduction in diversity, that is what we know as genetic erosion. Aware of this irremediable loss of diversity, the problem of conservation was addressed. In ITACyL there is a germplasm bank composed of base collection chambers, use and enhancer collections chambers, and seed processing area. The data set lists all those collections currently preserved in the Bank of Germoplasm of ITACyL
