The earthquake catalogue of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) contains a list of earthquakes which have occurred in Spain and nearby areas, the existence of whith has been verified by the study of historical documents and/or instrumental data analysis (recorded by the IGN seismic network and/or by other contributing networks). In this catalogue, the information about the sixmic source (origin time, hypocentral location, magnitude) and the effects (maximum observed intensity) has been collected for each one of the earthquakes. In addition, each one of the earthquakes may have additional information relating to: Seismic phases, focal mechanism, macro-seismic intensities, shakemaps, sixmic reports, etc. The time period of the catalogue covers from 880 B.C. through to the present. This catalogue is dynamic, since on one hand earthquakes occurring in Spain and nearby areas are continuously added, typically in less than one hour after its occurrence, and on the other hand the information of existing events can be increased or modified. The IGN earthquake catalogue is available to the public and can be consulted on the website: http://www.ign.es/web/ign/portal/sis-catalogo-terremotos.
