This unit establishes and analyses, in the first place, the concepts of language and speech, in relation to the general phenomenon of language. Likewise, the notions of bilingualism and diglosia are explained, which are the results in which the coexistence of two or more languages in the same community of speakers can derive, and the linguistic diversity of Spain. The different contents are developed, related to each other, through varied exercises that show that language is the way in which man makes language a reality and that varies according to his peoples or nations or according to the particular and individual use that a person makes of a language to communicate.
