Dataset description

This didactic unit has been created for the 3 rd ESO level. The title of this didactic unit refers to the combination of ternary and binary accentuation, rhythmic richness present in various cultures in the form of compasses of amalgam, composite bars, alternation of accentuations... The reason for this theme arose from the curious “find” of an Aragonese May written in composited compass, to the mode of the rhythm of petenera and the possibilities that this offered us to make a musical journey that would take us from the Aragonese folklore to the air of guajira of America of Leonard Bernstein. The final destination of this journey made by the students is the interpretation of the instrumental, vocal and body percussion work entitled A May in America. In it, the original May melody from the Turrolian people of Libros performs a “wink” to Bernstein’s work, as well as the rhythmic accompaniment constantly reinforces the rhythm of petenera or guajira that is implicit in the melody. With this musical journey it is intended that students are aware of the universality of music by relating musical creations as seemingly disparate as the Aragonese folk, an American musical and Latin and flamenco rhythms through listening, practicing melodies and rhythms that come from folklore and that have been used in both cultured and popular music: may of Books, rhythm of guajiras, peteneras, fandangos, bulerías, jazz, hua pango and “América” of West side story. As for the work on musical language contents, this didactic unit focuses on the established blocks: it is cucha, interpretation, creation and cultural contexts. The block of interpretation includes vocal, rhythmic, instrumental and movement interpretation (body percussion).
