Dataset description

Gazeta is the database that offers the historical collection of the Official Journal, contains provisions and news published in the official journals preceding the current Official State Gazette from 1661 to 1959. The digital collection contains around 1.450.000 documents with very varied news — announcements, communications, laws, etc. — many of them of great historical interest. The Gazette is also a rich source of information on the most prominent news of certain events of the time both domestic and foreign. In this sense you can find news about declarations of war, proclamations of kings, plagues, prices, etc. On the other hand, it is important to note that since its inception in 1661 and throughout its history, the Gazette received different titles, which, at certain historical moments, coexisted several official newspapers with different denominations. These documents are in PDF format, obtained from facsimile images in TIFF format.
