The Natura 2000 Network is the most important tool of the European Union’s biodiversity conservation policy.
It originates from Directive 92/43 on the conservation of natural habitats and wild flora and fauna.
This is a coherent ecological network consisting of Sites of Community Importance (SCI), to be transformed into Special Areas of Conservation (SACs), designated under the Habitat Directive, and by Special Protection Areas for Birds (SPAs) declared under Directive 2009/147/EC on the conservation of wild birds.
All these spaces are delimited by the different regional governments and by the Ministry within the framework of their competences.
The information submitted corresponds to the December 2021 update, according to the information from the Natura 2000 sites sent by the Ministry to the European Commission up to that date.
