Oh, traffic. Traffic lights with Photo-Red control

The so-called photo-red system consists of the installation of cameras at certain traffic lights in order to verify compliance with the arrest of vehicles in pedestrian crossings with traffic lights in the city. The cameras are installed on a back type bracket 25 meters from the stop line to allow to fully frame the pedestrian passage and the head of the traffic light of drivers. All steps with photo-red control are advertised by specific signage before reaching the support of the control equipment. Each installation has an infrared camera that allows to capture the license plate of the vehicle day and night. In addition, each installation has a color camera that takes 5 photographs of the crossing of the vehicle, in which it can be distinguished the make, model and color of the vehicle in addition to the registration plate. Therefore, they are only able to sanction those vehicles that have license plates, including cars, vans, trucks, buses, motorcycles and mopeds. Pedestrians and cyclists are not captured with this type of systems, although in specific areas checks are carried out by Municipal Police and Mobility Agents The control chambers are designed to be directly connected to the red spotlight and can only take photographs when the traffic light is in the red phase. If the traffic light is green or amber, the equipment is not activated. The violation of any red traffic light entails an economic penalty and the consequent loss of 4 points of the driving licence.
