Dataset description
The study of the opening of schoolyards for neighborhood use outside school hours requires a study of the physical characteristics of the 250 preschool and primary schools (CEIP). This study analyses its facilities and its limitations, in view of the objective pursued, which is the neighborhood use of these spaces, without affecting the use that is their own, and for which they are initially conceived, and, in any case, subject to the provisions of Decree 11/2018, of 6 March, of the Governing Council, which regulates the regime for the use of buildings and facilities of public non-university educational establishments in the Community of Madrid. All public centres of early childhood and primary education, both municipally owned and in the Community of Madrid, have been analysed. Three categories are defined to classify schools according to the conditions of their courtyards: category I, Category II and Category III Category I The courtyards category I are those that have been considered suitable to host the program of open courtyards. Category I centres meet the following conditions: — They have access to the independent courtyard from the street, that is, it is possible to access the courtyard without entering the school building. — They have separate access bathrooms to the school, that is, to access the bathrooms from the patio you do not enter the school building. — The patios are accessible in one part that is, they have an accessible route throughout the patio space considered useful for Open Courtyard activities. — The patios have good conditions of use. — They have a strategic location in the neighborhoods of the district. In some cases, centres have been chosen as category I because they were the only ones in the district that met the minimum requirements for accessibility and toilets, although they are not excessively large or varied courtyards, nor are they located in a strategic position with respect to the district. Category II patios are those that, complying with minimum accessibility conditions have been considered adaptable to incorporate the Open Patio program, but less suitable than Category I centers Category II centers meet the following conditions: — They have access to the independent courtyard from the street, that is, it is possible to access the courtyard without entering the school building. — They have separate access bathrooms from the patio to the school, that is, to access the bathrooms in not entering the school building. — The patios are accessible from the street, that is, they have an accessible route throughout the patio space considered useful for Open Courtyard activities. Category III Centers are those that fail to meet any of the three conditions of Category II. From the basic principles of transparency in public administration, this data is elaborated and exposed taking into account the ease of access, simplicity and reuse of information.
