The mapping included in this service contains the location of existing waste landfills in Spain.
A landfill is a waste disposal facility by means of its underground or surface storage, for periods of time longer than those considered for temporary storage.
Royal Decree 1481/2001 of 27 December 2001 regulating the disposal of waste by landfilling classifies landfills into three categories according to the type of waste deposited: landfill for hazardous waste, landfill for non-hazardous waste and landfill for inert waste.
These data have been obtained from three sources:
1.-Register of producers and waste managers (RPGR) based on the obligation of the Autonomous Communities to register these facilities, based on the provisions of Law 22/2011, on waste and contaminated soils.
2.- State Register of Emissions and Pollutant Sources (PRTR), linked to the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) and which contains landfills of hazardous and non-hazardous waste with a capacity exceeding 10 tons/day or 25,000 tons.
3.-The data have also been collected directly from those responsible for the Autonomous Communities.
The data collected are updated as of May 2018.
