Zoning of Biosphere Reserves in the Community of Madrid

The layer collects the zoning of the Biosphere Reserves: — High basins of the Manzanares, Lozoya and Guadarrama rivers, designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO on 9 November 1992, extended by UNESCO on 19 June 2019, at the request of the Community of Madrid — Sierra del Rincón, designated by UNESCO on 29 June 2005, extended by UNESCO on 15 June 2022, at the request of the Community of Madrid. Three zones differ: * Core areas, territories of protected natural areas or Natura 2000 network whose main objective is to preserve biological diversity and ecosystems. * Buffer zones, surrounding or bordering core areas, where only activities compatible with conservation objectives can take place. * Transition zone, where sustainable resource exploitation is encouraged and practiced.
