The data set “reindeer husbandry area” shows the approximate distribution of reindeer husbandry in Sweden and is the Sami Parliament’s way of providing a conceptual picture of where reindeer husbandry rights are currently exercised and can be considered to exist on the basis of, among other things, ancient memory. For some areas, there is disagreement over the extent of the reindeer herding right. In support of the documentation, the Borders Commission’s investigation (SOU2016:14) has been used. It intended to provide guidance on where reindeer husbandry rights may exist to a greater or lesser extent. The study’s compilation of knowledge is extensive and can be used to provide indications on reindeer husbandry rights, although the conclusions and positions of the investigation may be questioned.
For further legal information relevant to the interpretation of the data set, please refer to the Reindeer Husbandry Act and decisions of the ordinary court.
