Highly fluorinated substances (PFAS) and pesticides: an overall picture of the presence in the environment. Presentation of a Government Mission

The report presents the results of the screening of the presence of highly fluorinated substances (PFAS) and plant protection products in surface and groundwater that the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency carried out on behalf of the Government during 2015-2016. The screening was carried out partly through new measurements of PFAS and plant protection products and partly by compiling the results from older measurements. The results show that PFAS is present in concentrations that may pose a risk to human health and the environment in connection with confirmed point sources, mainly fire drill sites. The levels of plant protection products in the environment are currently not considered to pose an increasing risk to health or the environment — a few substances are most frequently found at levels above guideline or limit values.
