Hyperspectral IR, data from drill cores (raw data, level 0) consists of images taken with high resolution optical camera and partly of infrared images. Data have been obtained by scanning and analysing core cores from SGU’s archives for the ability of the mineral to reflect and absorb various wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum.
The cameras in the scanner cover the visible spectrum, as well as the short-wave and long-wave portion of the infrared (IR) spectrum. The mineral that forms the constituents of the core often produces characteristic signatures in these wavelength ranges and the combination of short-wave and long-wave IR provides a dataset that has great potential for mineral identification. Information about the mineral composition of a drill core provides knowledge useful for interpreting and modelling the origin of rocks and geological development.
The information consists of raw data, i.e. it has not undergone any further processing (no data correction or normalisation).
