Fortification is a concept for the anchorage made of rails against sleepers. The fortification has several purposes:
Transfer forces from the rail to the sleeper.
Secure the track gauge so that the rail does not move.
Reduce noise by dampening rail vibrations against the sleeper.
Prevent lateral bending (solar curves).
Insulate the rail against the sleeper (soil) if the rail is part of a track line
Facilitate installation of rails.
There are different types of fortifications that are used in different types of sleepers, substrates or at different locations in the track, e.g. in gears.
The data product has stretch distribution and connects to the network with reference to the nearest previous node and nearest previous kilometre board with distance in meters to both the starting and end positions of the route in the direction of the track link.
