Traffic management system means the technical or manual solution for safety used to monitor and control a track. There are several different systems.
system H Based on the availability of complete signal switchgear at the operational sites and line blocking on the line. The locations are either guarded or closed.
system M Based on the line being monitored by two signallers without the help of line blocking or radio blocking.
The locations can be monitored using manual methods with the support of simple switchgear, but can also have full signal switchgear. Operating sites may be unattended, guarded or closed.
system S Based on the line being monitored manually by only one signaller. There are no operating sites, but on the other hand, line sites without main tracks. The boundaries of these lines are marked with paintings. Inside these paintings, all tracks are sidings. The line in general has main tracks, also past other line locations. No train journeys can occur in system S but all movements on the line should be done as a barrier.
system R Based on the line and operating locations being monitored by radio blocking. The locations are either guarded or closed.
system F Based on the fact that the line and operating locations are monitored by manual methods by only one signaller. At the operational sites there are only sidings, and all movements there take the form of sight movement. The operating sites are guarded.
system E1 Based on the monitoring of the line and the operational sites using Level 1 of the European Traffic Management System ERTMS. The operating sites are guarded.
system E2 Based on the monitoring of the line and operational locations using Level 2 of the European Traffic Management System ERTMS. The operating sites are guarded.
system E3 Based on the monitoring of the line and the operational sites using Level 3 of the European Traffic Management System ERTMS. The operating sites are guarded.
