This service includes surfaces, lines and points that represent land drainage companies. It is a reflection of the objects in the Water Archive that have geometries. Not all counties have geometries, but there may still be objects to search in the Water Archive, see link under Online Sources.
For each item in this service there is a link to the County Administrative Boards Water Archive where more information about the object can be found, e.g. linked maps/drawings and files. The oldest are from the 1840s. The material that the county administrative board has is primarily soil drainage in the agricultural landscape. The documents have been produced in the old Agriculture Committee with predecessors.
According to the current definition in Chapter 11, Section 2 of the Environmental Code, land dewatering is ‘measures carried out to dewater land, [...] or which are carried out to lower or drop out of a water area or to protect against water, where the purpose of the measure is to permanently increase the suitability of a property for a particular purpose’.
Ditching, dismantling of water or flushing made to drain land or protect against flooding is counted as land dewatering, if it is done to bring about a lasting change in the soil.
