Marine geology 1:100 000 contains data on the distribution of soils and rocks within the Swedish territorial sea and the Swedish economic zone (EEZ). The product provides, among other things, information about the bottom material, the power of different sediments and the way in which they are formed. SGU is responsible for exploring and mapping bottom conditions within the Swedish territorial sea and economic zone (EEZ). The information produced is used as a basis for planning and deciding on the protection and use of the seabed, including the design of marine civil engineering works and environmental monitoring. It is also an important basis for biological inventories and for the Swedish Armed Forces. Due to restrictions in the Act on the Protection of Geographical Information (2016:319), only information outside the boundary of the maritime territory is displayed in the sea (previously territorial border) with the exception of data granted a permit to spread by the Swedish Maritime Administration.
