Low mountain forests are defined as tree-covered areas within the border close to the mountain, with a tree height between 2-5 metres and a crown cover of at least 10 per cent.
The layer shows where low-growth mountain forests are located within the border close to the mountain. The method is based on laser data and is not classified in satellite image. This means that the layer can contain both mountain birch and mountain coniferous forests, bee bushes and shrubs/trees on “very old huts” which are 2-5 meters high with 10 % crown cover. The area in the mountainous border also contains valleys and other lowlands, which means that low forests on more productive land come with, e.g. huts.
