The Coastal Vulnerability Index is intended to be used when municipalities work with various forms of community planning, for example to identify vulnerable areas in the municipality that need to be addressed in the future. County administrative boards and other authorities can also use the maps for review and follow-up.
The Coastal Vulnerability Index is based on the conditions that exist along the coast and that can affect erosion, which forces act against the coast and which societal values are threatened.
Skåne is particularly affected, many Scanian coastal municipalities are already exposed to beach erosion. After Skåne, tools will be developed in a similar way for other counties, including Halland, Blekinge, Eastern Småland, Öland and Gotland.
The Coastal Vulnerability Index is developed in collaboration with SGU.
Contact on beach erosion issues: Per Danielsson, nationally responsible for beach erosion at SGI.
